Full Gardens
Full Garden Case Study
This project was a joy from start to finish.......a lot of hard work yet the results speak for themselves.
Totally overgrown and lacking definition and dedicated area's, we had to strip the whole garden and start with a blank canvass. Lots to consider from where the sun is through the day, Listed building, protected trees to the gradient from left to right and front to back.
Customer had a dog which we had to consider and also wanted planting area's for herbs and hardy plants as well as decked area's for social spaces.
Rip out & Design
We completely stripped this garden, removed tree's and roots, old fencing and old deck. This opened up the area and allowed for views across the countryside which we had to take advantage of.
Replaced the decayed fence panels with concrete posts and gravel boards and a decent fence panel. This allowed us to design dedicated area's and get the ground to workable levels.
The solid concrete block back filled pond was the most difficult part of the project not even the digger could get through this.
Sleeper Beds & Steps
This was our solution to the ground level difference. This also gave us an opportunity to build in massive raised beds which once planted would provide a screen should the customer wish, to the new patio area created. The sleepers are treated and then oiled for further protection, within they are DPM wrapped. The steps are made from composite decking which we laid ribbed side up for extra grip.
Bistro Deck
This was perfect for a small area straight outside the back door for a small bistro table and chairs for a morning coffee. Built with composite boards. It also hid a raised manhole that wasn't possible for us to sink due to the age of the cottage and pipework
Patio Area
Nice large patio for a potential cooking area with drainage built in providing the first stage to the garden.
Lawn and Pathways
Having now got the height of the garden determined we moved our focus on to the uses of the top area. We built in two pathways to the main deck and side access for parking. We laid a good quality lawn over good quality soil to ensure growth.
Main Deck Rear
This became the main deck area providing dedicated seating/dining area with a pergola with lights then to the right hand side an area for loungers to enjoy the summer sun. We installed a low fence so you get the views of the rolling countryside
Main Deck Right
This area we designed for the evening! installing a lovely Gazebo with a fire pit recess for the chilly nights. Soft lighting installed and screens to the right and rear for added privacy.
The Overall Results
A relatively low maintenance full garden over two levels providing dedicated area's to suit the lifestyle of the client.
Night time Result
Deck lights to the full perimeter of the deck provides a soft light, Festoons on the pergola for those summer evening meals then warm lighting to the gazebo snug.
